The Jeff Healey Band - Legacy: Volume One (earMUSIC)
For his record and ticket sales alone the late Jeff Healey will be remembered as one of the biggest Blues stars of all time. This impressive three disc set lays out in the simplest possible way - singles and live performances - why he will be sadly missed by his massive international audience. It’s a clever release in that there’s something here for everyone. First up there’s a “greatest hits” disc brimming over with the most popular studio cuts from his twenty-odd year career, including “See The Light”, “Confidence Man”, and a new mix of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” featuring George Harrison and Jeff Lynn, which should well satisfy the curious latecomer. For the Healey aficionado however there’s also a CD collecting together 16 live performances, largely from New York, and a documentary DVD of rare footage showing the man and his band in the illustrious company of SRV, the Stones, Clapton and others. The temptation with retrospectives is to become overambitious by including all manner of best-forgotten out-takes and off-cuts, and the compilers of this worthy package deserve full credit for keeping it simple, direct and easily digestible, letting the quality of the music speak for itself.
