The Neil Cowley Trio - His Nibs / Foray (7” Single) (Cake) A month ago the press company sent us a copy of their new Loud Louder Stop album for review and it was faulty. We weren’t happy bunnies. They’ve partially made things right by sending us a copy of the new single, so we can at least take their names off ‘that’ list, but we’ll still be keeping an eye on them. “His Nibs” was recently featured on the Later show and over the following 24 hours there were so many hits on the band’s Myspace page that it broke the internet. That track emphasises violent piano abuse and a driving rhythm, which goes someway to disprove the ‘Radiohead gone Jazz’ theories, though flip side “Foray” is a trifle more noodly and confirms a misspent youth of floppy fringes and uninterrupted navel gazing.
