Tully - Sea Of Joy (Em Records)
Reissued for the first time on CD, the soundtrack to the Australian surf movie Sea Of Joy both surprises and delights in equal measure. Psych-prog outfit and Sydney residents Tully were director Paul Witzig’s inspired choice for the project and they responded with a collection of progressive pieces which seem somehow alien to the whole sun, sea, sand aesthetic but are eminently suitable to both the subject matter and the times. I’ve not seen the film for twenty-plus years, but from what I remember, the warmth of the photography is matched by the music throughout, and although you’ll be lucky to find a print of the film, the soundtrack is finally available, with an abundance of tracks I’d not heard before and some inspired packaging. Go directly to the label to purchase: www.emrecords.net or Forced Exposure are also carrying it: www.forcedexposure.com
