Mojave Ocean - S/T (Independent)
Old school psychedelic rock from Texas - a mish mash of Hawkwind, Doors, Floyd and a host of other bands. Opening track “Machine” is the band at their most melodic: vocalist Wil Wesch almost talks his way through the song, and what with the subject matter, it’s not unlike John Foxx on blotters, fronting The Cult. The band’s signature tune “Mojave Ocean” builds nicely and “Sand Shark” sounds like it fell out of 1968 and hasn’t stopped freaking out yet. Sometimes they get a little too close to their influences - “Landing Lights” might have been a Pink Floyd demo, circa late ‘70s, before Rog and Dave added the atmospherics. Like all this sorta stuff, it’s best played at extremely high volume - that’s the way my neighbours seem to like it when they’re banging on the wall and screaming in appreciation. http://mojaveocean.com
