Pink Industry – New / Naked / Technology 2010 Remasters (Wave)
Featuring Jayne Casey, one of the prime movers in the Liverpool punk scene (she fronted Big In Japan with a line up which included Ian Broudie, Holly Johnson, Budgie and Bill Drummond – Google ‘em…), Pink Industry were formed in 1982 and recorded a trilogy of albums: Low Technology, Who Told You, You Were Naked? and New Beginnings, before disbanding in 1987. Always a favourite amongst Peel listeners, raincoat sporters and post-punk dilettantes, it seems remarkable that the band have, up to now, been so poorly served by reissuers. The Brazilian Wave label have gone some way to putting things right with this impressive 24-track collection which compiles the best of the albums together with various alternative mixes, including the 12” version of their ever popular (amongst Peel listeners, etc.) “Don’t Let Go”.
I’m usually not a fan of compilations, but Wave have got this one just right, and if you’re lucky enough the find the double disc / DVD version, you’ll find a trio of promotional videos and a 40 minute live performance recorded in Manchester in 1984.
