Josefina Sanner – Love Case Scenario (Finaville Music)
An up and coming talent on the Swedish singer-songwriter circuit, Josefina Sanner’s second album is a collection of songs which were written during (and as a reaction to) a break-up of romantic proportions. Fortunately she avoids the ugly details and keeps things vague. A quick look at Sanner’s MySpace page and an interesting fact come to light. She’s an incredibly prolific writer, with a catalogue of over 700 songs. It’s no wonder thematically she’s difficult to pin down over an 11-track album.
This is a good thing. Picking over the remnants of lost love can often be therapeutic for the songwriter, but for the listener it can be draining. So hazy feelings of regret and an undercurrent of sadness runs through Love Case Scenario, but we’re never made to feel like voyeurs. She’s got some fine songs. “Row Your Boat” is serene and catchy with a hint of Roxy’s “Dance Away” in the verses. “Beautiful Day” with its delicate beats and summer vibe would be a smash in any alternative universe.
