Old Ghost - Hearts And Coffins EP (Infinite Universe)
They call it art-country, but Roxy Music in flannel shirts it ain’t. In fact opening cut, “Black Crow” might be the perfect fusion of 70s Dylanesque rhymes with a Graham Parker delivery. That’s not too shoddy a start to a 5-track EP which taps nicely into a wordy Americana vibe, all backed up with a full roots band, including sympathetic keys and lap steel guitar. As things progress, they never quite reach the heights of that first track, but they come close again on the slinky “Wherever You Are” and the weighty “I Saw The Light”, which brings things to an effective close. Special guests include Bill Patton and Steve Dorocke from The Handsome Family band. www.myspace.com/oldghostsound
