Cuchillo - Cuchillo (Sinnamon)
Cuchillo are Israel Marco (guitar and vocals) and Daniel Domínguez (drums and percussion). Together, the Spanish duo spawn an organic brew of gentle psychedelic folk-pop, littered with ethereal vocals and shimmering guitar. The effect is both dreamy and mildly invigorating - think an acoustic Quicksilver Messenger Service signed to 4AD circa 1985, and you might have some idea of what I’m on about, or be completely flummoxed. Okay, try a cross between Rain Parade and Mazzy Star - gentleman vocals with a languid, psyche persona - is that any better? They’ve a MySpace page (link below) which should satisfy your curiosity, and quite possibly lead to a purchase. When you’re there, be sure to check out “Estricta Libertad”, something that the Roback brothers might have come up with (on a winter’s day, mind) for Emergency Third Rail Power Trip, had they called Barcelona home. “Summertime In Sweden”, is equally special. Spooky Hawaiian guitar and a shuffling melody equals considerably more than the sum of its parts. www.myspace.com/cuchillo
