Death Of The Neighbourhood - Death Of The Neighbourhood (Atic)
The driving force of Death Of The Neighbourhood is one Stephen Jones, previously the artist known as Baby Bird and the man who sold a bzillion copies of “You’re Gorgeous”. These days the ‘Bird is best remembered for just that one huge hit, but at the time he was considered an indie marvel, releasing a string of impossible to nail down albums, and a doyen of the lo-fi scene. But since those heady days, time have passed and things have changed, except it seems, Jones approach to music. Still lo-fi, gloriously haphazard and engaging on a number of levels, Jones may have swapped his anti-folk-rock leanings for something altogether more urban - he hasn’t lost his ability to write or deliver great songs. As with all artists with something to say, editing can be a problem, and at 32 tracks over 2 CDs, there’s a lot of Death Of The Neighbourhood to take in at one sitting. But, if you like the idea of washed out electronica, broken beats and bedroom hip hop, then trek over to MySpace (link below) and have a listen. I did and I’m hooked. www.myspace.com/deathoftheneighbourhood
