Lonesome Brothers - The Last CD (Captivating Music) I hope it’s not their last CD. The Lonesome Brothers were standard bearers of alt. country and Americana before those terms had been properly defined. Fronted by Ray Mason and Jim Armenti (with ex-Scud Mountain Boy, Tom Shea on drums), the Lonesomes keep on keeping on, producing quality recordings, if never in any great quantity. Needless to say, their sixth album in twenty-plus years is another good one. They mix up the different strands of Americana, with the default setting on the rockin’ side of things and never sound like they’re not enjoying themselves. Song titles like “My Baby Never Saw Me Drunk”, “Fins On A Cadillac” and “Seated At The Devil’s Table” deliver as much as they promise, with wit and a double helping of homespun charm.
