Nordgarden - The Path Of Love (Giardino Del Nord)
Garnering comparisons to Ryan Adams in his native Norway, and causing a bit of a stir whilst doing so, singer-songwriter Terje Nordgarden certainly seems to be tapping the same rich veins of inspiration as the ex-Whiskeytown man. With this well produced collection of folky, consistently engaging songs, it can only be a matter of time (and luck) before UK audiences draw the same conclusions. As an added bonus, Nordgarden is in possession of a set of pipes that fall robustly between the rich tones of Songs: Ohia’s Jason Molina and mother’s favourite, ‘sweet baby’ James Taylor (a voice that would knock most new acoustic troubadour rivals into a cocked hat). His presentation too, straddles lush indie folk and the classic Brill Building singer-songwriter vibe. Standout songs are plentiful and appear with healthy regularity throughout the set, with opening cut “Up The Hillside” most likely to get DJs like Bob Harris all-a-tremble. www.nordgarden.info
