The Campbell Stokes Sunshine Recorder - Makes Your Ears Smile (Jack O’ the Green) Too sloppy for power pop and all the chord progressions are the same... according to the terribly self-deprecating “Track One” which, unsurprisingly, opens this excellent debut album. TCSSR is the solo incarnation of Bronco Bullfrog leader Andy Morten and gives him free reign to indulge in an obsession with late 60’s pop whimsy. “Mrs. Bumble” is one of many stomping face-offs between the Monkees and The Move. “Feel The Sunshine” is a soundtrack to a vacation that I’m planning to the South West of England. If the light down there can produce such engaging aural collages then I’m up for my own quota of infrared. Doesn’t the similarly melodic Peter Bruntnell hail from down there?
