Twilight Hotel - Highway Prayer (CoraZong Records)
This album is deceptive as it starts with a real jump jive song called “Viva La Vinyl”. It sets the foot tapping but it is not representative of the rest of the album. This is an evocative and atmospheric record that if it were a film it would be by David Lynch of Twin Peaks fame. You really can feel the prairies of Canada (the duo are from Winnipeg) in songs such as “Impatient Love” and the title track “Highway Prayer”, which has very moody and twangy guitar playing in them. This is also the last session Richard Bell (of Janis Joplin and The Band fame) played on. This is a fine tribute to him and the last instrumental track is a wonderful duet between him and the producer Colin Linden. www.twilighthotel.ca
