Abavuki - Africa Got Soul (Prestige) I was a little apprehensive when I read the tag line ‘classic soul with an African beat’ on the CD cover. Unfortunately my fears were not allayed and the CD was as cheesy as I suspected. The songs on the CD are classics, with such greats as “Tears of a Clown” and “Say a little Prayer” - also it does contain some African beats. However the combination is mostly disappointing, especially so on the disastrous attempt to cover “Papa was a Rolling Stone”. Africa has soul in vast amounts, this CD has none: best avoided. Alan Next
