Although Starving Weirdos sacrifice themselves to technology - the God of contemporary western civilisation – with their heavy electronic manipulations, they emanate spirituality and inform the compositions with ethnicity. The tape, upon which it’s recorded, is smothered in glorious depths of instrumental, and non instrumental, sound and allows the imagination to switch between evoking the rites of occultism and the primitive spirits of the rainforest in a short time frame. At times the air is awash with cluttered percussion and at others swathed in oceanic drones. There are the shrill, shamanic hollers of flutes as well as tribal pounding beats. “Walking Towards Perfection” includes the lion’s share of the album’s limited processed vocals and provides a reverberating, echoing standout centre piece.
