ChancellorPink - Life Like Sad Music (Wax Electric) ChancellorPink idolises David Bowie and at times you wish his idol had returned the compliment and had borrowed the Chancellor’s experimental edge and courage in creating swirling collages of noise and melody. I’d rather listen to this than anything Bowie has produced recently. “Feed the Enemy” is a powerful onslaught; “Walk on Water” has a Gothy vocal over Durutti Column guitars. The lyrics are poetic, the music romantic and there’s a super nod to the 80’s pop of the Talk Talk school of musicality in most tracks. Despite the upbeat conviction of the project there is a deeply affecting underpinning of loss and tragedy in there somewhere.
