Solyoni - Kenesaw Mountain Landis (Velvet Fallopian Tubes) “Marble in a Jar” is the finest song ever. I could end the review there, except that it wouldn’t do justice to the genius of Solyoni in producing this winsome, haunting masterpiece. Acoustic sketches of bullying at the roller rink nestle on “Shoot the Duck” snugly with the Spector(esque) glam and gloom of “The One That Got Away”. The sparse production means that this is the best CD ever to play on shitty speakers, indeed it is better on computer speakers than through my meaty system. It’s the fine-pointing, the economy of style that scrapes scars on the eardrum, etchings of moments, of emotion and of time and place.
