Eve Selis - Angels And Eagles (Hot Records)
This is Eve's (sounds like I know her right!) sixth solo album, and it is the most accomplished to date. She has found both her voice and her writing chops as she co-writes twelve of the fourteen songs. Her own songs cover a variety of styles from acoustic mid tempo "Street I Grew Up On" to country rockers such as the title track and "Crying Days". The most intriguing song is the catchy "One Day At A Time" which sounds a close relative to Dire Straits "The Bug", but the Mary Chapin Carpenter version! However, it is the two covers that show her soulful side. Patty Griffin's "Goodbye" has a beautifully understated arrangement, and her feeling of loss in the song is stronger because of this. Gram Parson's "She" highlights the emotion in her voice, and is the best cover of this song I have heard. A quality album which is enhanced by her band who are in tune (pun intended) with her. www.eveselis.com
