Jack Tempchin - Songs (Night River)
JT has written two songs on the biggest selling album of all time. That album is The Eagles Greatest Hits and the songs are “Already Gone” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling”. So he knows how to write quality, radio friendly material. This first solo album is full of top drawer songs, played and recorded to an impeccable standard by some of L.A.'s finest musicians, including Rick "the bass player" Rosas and Ron Meurer. An album of vast contrasts in style, and it works. The lead in track "Out In The Desert" is a spoken vocal song very reminiscent of Robbie Robertson's "Somewhere Down The Crazy River". Whereas "Waiting" is a full blown rocker that is very much in the Springsteen vein. He can still write a beautiful ballad and "Box Of Memories" is a haunting song of lost love. Lyrically, it’s in the same ballpark as Brass Buttons by Gram Parsons. This is an album which is like a chocolate box, with something for everyone. If you want Eagles then you will enjoy "East of Eden", if you want a rocker then he has revisited "Smuggler's Blues". A quality writer, I can see a lot of these songs being covered by other artists in the months to come. www.peacefuleasyfeeling.com
