Rachel Bay Jones - ShowFolk (Plum Song Records) I’m a huge fan of this new wave of female talent which has been unleashed thanks in part to the success of artists like Norah Jones. It’s so thrilling seeing and hearing talented young women coming to the fore, on record and on stage, whether it’s major venues or in coffee houses. Rachel Bay Jones is my latest discovery, a vocalist with a history in bluegrass music, but with an album of showtunes. The songs are plucked from some very happening shows, including a beautiful “Another Day” from Rent and “Wicked Little Town” from Hedwig and the Angry Itch - every instrument is acoustic and Rachel’s voice soars.
