Harrisons - No Fighting in the War Room (Melodic)
There is a lot to be said for the Hillsborough area of Sheffield. For one, you can get there on the Supertram, and the Morrison’s store looks like a fairytale castle. There is a pirate ship in the middle of the swimming baths and the best park for jogging in South Yorkshire. There are charity shops for bargain hunting and Leicester City won the League Cup there. What more do you want? And then along come Harrisons, whose first album is available of late in a super-size, get it while you can, double offer DVD extra package. The CD is as pick and mix as the shops of Hillsborough. Discard the opening “Dear Constable”, a poor slice of ‘the Sheffield Sound‘ that ultimately did for Milburn. After that the collection borrows bits of Kasabian, The Paddingtons and, most successfully, The Dave Clark Five. When Harrisons just thump a beat out, shout a bit and hit a groove like a bike wheel stuck down a tram line, they are heroically swashbuckling. Single “Wishing Well” is a joyous howl and I have become hooked on “Medication Time”. Harrisons have their best in front of them, when they’re less of a supermarket sweep and more of a speciality confectioner, more a band than the idea of a band. The DVD is a brilliant bonus, with bootleg concert footage, single videos and a photo gallery. www.harrisonroad.co.uk
